What is a domain name?

A domain name, such as catalog.com or dollarcar.com is simply a way to identify your web site, email, etc. from everyone elseĆs. Just as your mailing address is unique in the world, so is every domain name. If domain names were not unique it would be impossible to accurately deliver anything to its proper location. Computers on the Internet use combinations of numbers to talk to each other called IP Addresses. To make it easier for humans to communicate via the web, domain names were created!
